Elephants & Bees

cropraid

Being poached for their ivory isn’t the only concern elephants have. Human encroachment on wild spaces has limited their access to resources needed to survive. As a result elephants are raiding crop lands, causing a lot of harmful conflict with farmers. Finding deterrents that are socially, economically and environmentally suitable has been the task for many organisations. Some natural deterrents include planting varieties of pepper plants within the fields (Elephants don’t like the smell), live bee fences, and even “bombs” of pepper powder filled condoms!
